Michael Jackson Glove Goes For $190,000!!

This was the glove Michael Jackson wore on his 1984 Victory Tour and for Los Angeles resident Wanda Kelley, it was worth $190,000!

After making the winning bid at an auction run by Julien's Auction at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Kelley said, "Let's just say, I wasn't walking out of here without that glove."

The Swarovski-crystal-studded glove was expected to sell between $20,000 and $30,000 at the auction however, according to Darren Julien, the response from bidders was "unlike anything we've ever experienced."

He added that "People flew in from Asia, Russia, all over. Now that he's gone, we now realize the true legend we lost."

Other Jackson items at the auction included a pair of stage-worn loafers that went for $90,000, a custom jacket he wore during a Barbara Walters interview that sold for $120,000, and one of the last autographs he signed on June 24, 2009, which went for $21,000.

About Global Dimming

Global dimming is the gradual reduction in the amount of global direct irradiance at the Earth's surface that was observed for several decades after the start of systematic measurements in the 1950s. The effect varies by location, but worldwide it has been estimated to be of the order of a 4% reduction over the three decades from 1960–1990. However, after discounting an anomaly caused by the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991, a very slight reversal in the overall trend has been observed.
It is thought to have been caused by an increase in particulates such as sulfate aerosols in the atmosphere due to human action. The switch from a "global dimming" trend to a "brightening" trend in 1990 happened just as global aerosol levels started to decline.

Global dimming has interfered with the hydrological cycle by reducing evaporation and may have reduced rainfall in some areas. Global dimming also creates a cooling effect that may have partially masked the effect of greenhouse gases on global warming.

Deliberate manipulation of this dimming effect is now being considered as a geoengineering technique to reduce the impact of global warming.

It is thought that global dimming is probably due to the increased presence of aerosol particles in the atmosphere caused by human action. Aerosols and other particulates absorb solar energy and reflect sunlight back into space. The pollutants can also become nuclei for cloud droplets. Water droplets in clouds coalesce around the particles. Increased pollution causes more particulates and thereby creates clouds consisting of a greater number of smaller droplets (that is, the same amount of water is spread over more droplets). The smaller droplets make clouds more reflective, so that more incoming sunlight is reflected back into space and less reaches the Earth's surface. In models, these smaller droplets also decrease rainfall.[4]

Clouds intercept both heat from the sun and heat radiated from the Earth. Their effects are complex and vary in time, location, and altitude. Usually during the daytime the interception of sunlight predominates, giving a cooling effect; however, at night the re-radiation of heat to the Earth slows the Earth's heat loss.

Apple Issues Advice to avoid iPhone Flaw

Apple has released official advice for iPhone 4 owners to overcome the problem of the device losing signal when held by the lower left corner.

Steve Jobs responded to a query about the problem from one owner by saying: "Just avoid holding it in that way."

The official advice is to "avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band".

Alternatively, said Apple, customers could buy a case to shield the antenna.

The iPhone 4 went on sale on 24 June, with hundreds of people queuing outside Apple's flagship store in central London for the launch.

Many new owners reported that signal strength dropped when the phone was held.

In a statement, Apple said: "Gripping any mobile phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas."

Steve Jobs issued his response in a message responding to an e-mail from the Ars Technica news site. Mr Jobs wrote that "All phones have sensitive areas".

The problem is thought to be particularly acute for left-handed owners who naturally touch the phone in the sensitive area.

The casing of Apple's latest phone is made of stainless steel, which also serves as its antenna.

Apple sells a rubber "bumper" that shields the sensitive area as do many other firms.

Richard Warner, one of the first to buy an iPhone 4, contacted BBC News, saying that he thought the phone was "useless in its current state".

"Apple have created a phone that has an antenna on the bottom left-hand side of the phone."

"This means that when you hold it in your left hand, the signal bars slowly fade until there is no signal," he wrote.

'Complaints'

A number of videos have been posted on video sharing site YouTube complaining about the reception issue.

One video had an American user running a speed test, with hands on and hands free.

In it, the user 'awington' says that, while holding the phone "it won't even run the test when I am holding the phone... once I let go, it makes a connection and runs the test.

"Hold it a second time, and the upload test will not start."

Social networking site Twitter was full of chatter, with numerous tweets on the reception problems.

The issue might stem from the way the integrated antenna is constructed. One section provides mobile reception, while another is for wi-fi.

Some users have speculated that touching the bottom of the phone bridges this gap, affecting signal strength.

When Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone 4 at Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, he described the integrated antenna as "really cool engineering".

Eco-Friendly Gardens: 13 Organic Pest Control Methods

If you have the dedication and patience to cultivate a blooming garden this summer (which not all of us do, believe me), then you definitely want to protect your garden from insects and pests. But you also don’t want to contaminate your naturally-grown vegetables with pesticides or chemicals. Planet Green compiled a helpful list of common garden predators and what you can do to get rid of them – naturally.
1. Aphids are tiny little annoying bugs that suck the juice from leaves and stems of plants – and possibly spreading disease as they do it. Spray your plants down with a hose, and that should do the trick.
2. If you see brown spots on your asparagus stalks, or if the stalks are bent, you’re probably hosting asparagus beetles. Wasps love to eat these beetles, so don’t go on a wasp-killing-spree. And try to handpick the beetles, as well as their larvae and eggs, from the plants. Gross, but necessary.
3. Who would have thought that those tiny white butterflies that bob in and out of your garden were actually depositing cabbage worm eggs on your leafy vegetables? Check your kale, cabbage, and broccoli for light green larvae. Just pluck them off the plants and drop them in a cup of soapy water. Or cover your crops with floating row covers.
4. Colorado potato beetles love to chew foliage on your potato plants. These pests are tougher to get rid of, but crop rotation helps a lot.
5. Despite their name, corn borers can ravage peppers, beans, and potatoes, too. If you see any of these plants falling over, a corn borer has probably eaten through the stem. Bacillus thuringiensis is a great natural insecticide that eliminates corn borers.
6. Cucumber beetles nibble on leaves and fruit of the cucumber, and also spread bacterial wilts. The two best methods of control here are handpicking and floating row covers.
7. If it seems like your tomato seedling has been chopped down by a minuscule lumberjack, cutworms have been playing house in your garden. To ward against them, put a cardboard toilet paper roll around the stem of your tomato plant – the roll will break down in the dirt, or you can compost it.
8. Flea beetles leave very small holes in plant leaves. Handpicking is your best defense against this garden nuisance.
9. The leaves on your beans have been chomped away, leaving only the veins. Who’s to blame? The Mexican beetle. Go with floating row covers for this one, along with handpicking, if you can catch them.
10. Slippery, slimy slugs love to feed on lettuce. Just pull these annoying suckers off your plant and put them in some soapy water.
11. If you see yellow spots and dry brown droppings on the leaves of your squash, you’re witnessing the handiwork of the squash bug. Try picking them off the leaves.
12. Similar to the squash bug, the squash vine borer crawls into the vine of your plant and makes it wither. Cut the vine open right where the problem seems to start, and you’ll find your culprit. Just dig them out, cut off the wilted part of the stem, and bury the end of the vine into the dirt. New roots will form, and your plant will be as good as new.
13. Tomato hornworms will feast on your tomato plant like there’s no tomorrow. Once you spot them, it may be too late to save your plant. But pick them off anyway and drown them in soapy water.

Install Windows XP Professional - New Installation

There are three reasons why you may need to install a new copy of Windows XP:
Your current operating system doesn’t support an upgrade to Windows XP Professional.

Your current operating system supports an upgrade to Windows XP Professional, but you don’t want to keep your existing files and personalized settings.

Your computer does not have an operating system.

The setup process is similar for new installations and upgrades with a few notable exceptions. For example, during a new installation, you are able to configure Special Options, convert your file system, and create a new partition for the Windows XP installation.
IMPORTANT
A new installation deletes all programs or system files from a previous installation.

Special Options

Under Special Options, you have the choice to change Language, Advanced, and Accessibility settings during the setup process.

Note:  If you are in a country that has recently adopted the euro as its currency, you may have to modify the currency settings to display monetary amounts correctly.

For more information, go to Help and Support Center and type “euro” in the Search box.Select    If you want to...
Language    Choose the primary language and regions for Windows XP, which affects the default settings for date, time, currency, numbers, character sets, and keyboard layout.
Choose additional language groups and character sets to use with the programs you are running on Windows XP.
Advanced Options    Change the default location of the Setup files.
Store system files in a folder other than the default (Windows) folder
Copy the installation files from the CD to the hard disk.
Accessibility    Use Narrator or Magnifier during Setup.

IMPORTANT
Unless you're an advanced user, it's recommended that you use the default settings.

Choosing a File System

During a new installation of Windows XP, you may have to choose which file system your computer should use. Windows XP Professional supports:
FAT32: An enhanced version of the file allocation table (FAT) system that is standard on all Windows operating systems starting with later (32-bit) versions of Windows 95. The FAT32 system can be used on large hard disks, from 512 megabytes (MB) to 32 gigabytes (GB).
NTFS: The NT file system (NTFS) is used with the Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP operating systems. NTFS provides enhanced reliability, stability, and security, and supports large hard disks of up to 2 terabytes (TB).
IMPORTANT
You can convert your file system any time, even after you install Windows XP, without losing any of your data.

The conversion to NTFS is one–way only; if you convert your FAT or FAT32 file system to NTFS you can’t convert your hard disk back to FAT later.

If you’re not sure which file system to use, keep the one your computer defaults to during Setup. If you want to change your file system, here are a few recommendations:
Use FAT32 if your hard disk is smaller than 32 GB.
Use FAT32 if you want to install more than one operating system on your computer.
Use NTFS if your hard drive is larger than 32 GB and you are running only one operating system on your computer.
Use NTFS if you want enhanced file security.
Use NTFS if you need better disk compression.
Disk Partitions

You can create partitions to organize information—for example, to back up data—or to install more than one operating system on your computer. A hard disk can contain up to four partitions.

If you’re performing a new installation, the appropriate disk partition is selected automatically during Windows XP Setup unless you click Advanced Options and specify your own requirements

For more information about configuring, sizing, reformatting, or converting disk partitions, see your current online Help before you install or upgrade to Windows XP Professional.

"Internet Kill Switch"

This looks like scary shet... that the president can just decide on shutting down the internet because of "Emergency reasons" or "Terrorist"

Here is the link:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-20007851-38.html

"Lieberman's bill, introduced last week, could force companies such as broadband providers, search engines, and software firms that the government selects to "immediately comply with any emergency measure or action" decreed by the Department of Homeland Security.
Because there are virtually no limits on the president's emergency power, which can be renewed indefinitely, the densely worded 197-page bill has encountered criticism from industry and civil liberties groups, which have worried about the ability to shut down parts of the Internet and raised concerns about "the potential for absolute power." (The sole limit is on warrantless wiretapping.)"

The Senate is planning on pushing the law forward. I don't want for that ONE day when somebody, you, or even us are checking on XXX news on some webs and BOOM.... "Network connection is Temporarily Down".
